A Lot Going On

I should be in bed but I just couldn't go to sleep without writing again. Yesterday was a hectic day. I took the day off because I had to register my daughter for high school. She needed a tetanus shot before she could enroll so I made an appointment with the doctor. She has also been having back problems again (this started back in 2003 or so) so I figured I better take care of that while I'm at it. The doctor thought it seemed more muscle related but said she might have mild scoliosis. She said she had a bunch of knots and muscle spasms in her back and also said she was way too young for that kind of thing. She said it's usually stress related and couldn't believe she could be so stressed at 14. She learned it by watching me, alright?! So, we went down the road to the radiology center and had some x-rays done. Then we headed over to Target to fill her prescription. The doctor prescribed muscle relaxers for her. After that, we headed home and had some lunch and watched some of How to Look Good Naked. Have you seen that show??? That's for another day. After we peeled ourselves away from the tv we drove to the high school and spent about an hour or more registering for high school. At one point, it all started to hit me and I realized my daughter was going to high school. I almost passed out in the line to show the nurse her shot records. But I didn't. After registration we went to Eyemasters to get her some glasses. She found the perfect pair and we put in our order. Then the lady told us they'll be ready tomorrow (which is today) at 5pm. What the...??? What happened to glasses in an hour? No big deal except that meant I had to go back today when we were supposed to go see Casey. Oh, by the way, we did all of this in the rain. It rained the whole day. Needless to say we had to change our flip flops at the halfway point (when we went home for lunch). But I will so take cool, rainy weather over 107 degree 50% humidity any day of the week. By the time we got home yesterday, the day was practically over and I was tuckered out.

I went to the Light the Night Kickoff lunch today. It is the 10th birthday of the walk and also it was the kickoff party for the walk in October. They gave us free lunch and some cool LTN swag. I got a pretty snazzy Team Captain hat, too. I'm very excited. One of Casey's doctors was actually there and he spoke. He was super funny. Each year they have an Honored Hero and a Memorial Hero that they walk for. Basically, this is for those people who want to walk but haven't been affected personally by cancer and they want to walk anyway. They can walk for these people. The Memorial Hero is a 32 year old guy who died earlier this year, right before his 33rd birthday and 4 days before his daughter's 2nd birthday. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease when he was 15. He went through chemo and radiation and beat the disease but was told he wouldn't be able to have kids. He married his true love and 2 years later, they got pregnant. He died from heart complications caused by his treatments. His sister spoke and it just broke my heart to hear his story. I was very happy he was able to live such a fulfilling life. His name is Matt McKee. Please check out this link to read more about this amazing guy. http://stars.nhl.com/team/app?articleid=350473&page=NewsPage&service=page

After work today, I dropped off Chris at Casey's and went to pick up Lexy and took her to get her glasses. This went smoothly and we went to see Casey. Casey didn't want us to leave and I just felt like crying. I wanted to climb into his spare bed and go to sleep with him. My heart just broke over and over tonight. He is just such a trooper. His hair is falling out, which luckily you can't tell so much with his freshly shaved head. And his skin is peeling a lot beause his skin cells are dying. He's covered in bruises because everything makes him bruise. But, he is doing reall well considering everything he's going through. He's a champ.

So, I'm just now home and I'm pooped. I'm not sleeping at all these days. I don't know why. BUT! I have not succombed to the call of the soda. I can barely keep my eyes open in the morning but I fight the urge for a soda. Especially with my workouts being so sporadic, I can't give in to the soda, no matter how bad it wants me to drink it.
